Council to replace bowls with gymnastics due to London 2012 boost
It will be out with bowls and in with gymnastics at Crawley, if council proposals go ahead.
The success of Hawth Gymnastics Club – as well as increased interest due to the London 2012 Olympics - has lead to the club having a 1,000-person waiting list, which in turn has prompted the council to review the use of its flagship facility, K2.
While gymnastics is increasing in popularity and demand isn’t being met, bowls is on the decline and its seasonal nature leads to the bowls hall being empty in summer months.
The public’s views are being sought on plans to move the bowls hall, extend the gymnastics hall over two floors and develop a three tier indoor soft play facility with two party rooms.
The changes would also allow the centre to host larger scale music and entertainment events.
The facility is operated by sports trust Freedom Leisure.
