The future of Roseberry Grange Golf Club near Chester-le-Street has been secured, after an agreement was reached between Durham County Council (DCC) and the club itself.

DCC is currently looking to achieve savings of £123.5m over the coming for years and had launched a search for potential operators of the club to come forward in March. A business case put forward by Roseberry Grange Community Golf Club was chosen from four bids received by the council, with agreement now set to ensure the transfer of the club.

DCC head of sport and leisure Steve Howell said: "We have worked closely with the club's former committee members to negotiate the future ownership of Roseberry."
