Students cruising for a job
The University of Plymouth and Princess Cruises have held a joint careers day intended to show prospective students what life working aboard a cruise ship would be like.
The event was designed to promote a new undergraduate course at the university, the three-year Bsc (Hons) in cruise operations management.
During the day, 16 potential students were given a tour of the Royal Princess cruise ship, which was anchored off Falmouth, and given talks by Princess Cruises staff.
As part of the course, Princess Cruises will be offering students a year’s placement on board some of its liners prior to their final year and helping with final-year fees.
Dom Millar of the cruise line, said: “We hope that, by working closely with the university, we will be able to help students both financially and practically by providing valuable work experience, which is of paramount importance in this industry.”
Princess Cruises has announced it is looking to recruit more than 3,000 staff over the next few years due to huge growth in the cruising market. Details: www.plymouth.ac.uk
