Dein handed international 2018 bid role

By Pete Hayman    22 Feb 2010

David Dein, the former vice-chair of Arsenal Football Club (AFC), has been named as the new international president of England's bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

Dein will be responsible for promoting England's bid to host the tournament overseas, having already provided informal assistance at the African Cup of Nations in Angola and the FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Nigeria. England 2018/22 bid chair Lord Triesman said: "David has a huge amount of experience in world football and an excellent network of contacts. We are very pleased that he will be joining the team in such an important role for the crucial final ten months."

FIFA is set to decide which country will host the tournaments in December.
