Disability charity Sense Sport secures Sport England grant
A charity offering a range of inclusive sport and physical activities for people with complex disabilities has secured a £1.3m grant from Sport England.
The funding will allow Sense Sport to expand its sports provision and work with local partners to run accessible sessions across the country.
The sessions will support more than 2,500 people with high-level support needs, aged from five to 60, to access sport and physical activity over the next three years.
The funding forms part of Sport England's strategy of tackling inactivity levels among people with multiple impairments – which have been deemed "unacceptably high" by the grassroots agency.
“This investment will upskill the workforce and influence the sports and physical activity sector to be more inclusive for people with multiple and complex disabilities," said Adam Blaze, Sport England's strategic lead on disability.
"We know from our Active Lives research that inactivity levels are unacceptably high for people with multiple impairments.
"Sense Sport is doing excellent work supporting people with complex disabilities to enjoy the benefits that increased physical activity brings, such as improvements to mental wellbeing and social connectedness."
