Doubt cast over proposed Rangers takeover
Doubt has been cast over Craig Whyte's proposed takeover of Glasgow Rangers Football Club after members of the club's board said that it had concerns over the process.
The Rangers board's independent sub-committee said that it had reviewed documents that did not suggest that the deal would provide an expected level of investment in the club. Alistair Johnston, chair of the Rangers board's independent sub-committee, also revealed a director had come forward with an alternative funding option that could raise £25m.
Johnston said: "The Board believes that it has a responsibility to examine this proposal while continuing its review of the Craig Whyte transaction." Meanwhile, Wrexham Football Club has confirmed that a prospective National Assembly member - John Marek - had offered to pay some of its outstanding tax debt.
The Blue Square Bet Premier club has been hit with a winding up order over the £200,000 debt, and said that Marek was working on putting together a rescue package.
