Eden reopens in November
Eden Court Theatre and Cinema in Inverness is set to reopen on 3 November following a two-year renovation programme to increase its capacity and update its facilities.
The redevelopment added a third building – featuring an 850-seat theatre, two cinemas, studios and a dressing room block – to the venue’s existing two buildings, which are located on a Grade A-listed site.
Douglas Yule, chair of the Eden Court Board of Governors, said: “The people of the Highlands will now have access to the very finest arts facilities available.
“Not only will they be able to experience the very best in theatre and cinema entertainment, they will also be able to enjoy new galleries, exhibitions, a bar and restaurant facilities and for the very first time be able to visit the Bishop’s Palace, one of the most important historical buildings in Inverness.”
Elgin-based Robertson Construction Northern carried out the development, which was designed by Glasgow-based architects Page Park.
The project received £5m from the Scottish Executive and £2.7m from the European Regional Development Fund as well as funding from the Scottish Arts Council.
Eden Court presents music, drama, dance and comedy events and arts films and is a regional base for an education and outreach programme. Details: www.eden-court.co.uk
