Ellensburg US$80m waterpark and hotel plans finally off the ground as funding is secured
After nearly a decade of delays, plans for a waterpark in Ellensburg, Washington, US, look finally set to go ahead, with developers saying that construction should begin in a matter of months.
Originally revealed in 2006, plans for the plot of land, which sits on the interstate, included a five-storey hotel with 144 rooms and an eight-storey water slide, in addition to a number of pools, smaller slides, a wave rider and relaxation areas for the tropical-themed waterpark. The facility will also be partially powered by solar and wind energy.
The US$80m (£47m, €59.5m) project stalled following the financial collapse of the economy, but owner Gene Martin now insists the funding is now available for the project, which will create an estimated 400 permanent jobs.
Assuming work kicks off as scheduled, the waterpark will be open for October 2015.
