Fast rollout brings JD Gyms close to 100 site milestone
JD Gyms is moving closer to its target of 100 sites across the UK, with a new club in Basingstoke (pictured) and another opening next week in Chester.
Founded in 2014, JD Gyms is part of JD Sports Fashion. Until last year it owned the Swim! Academy, but this arm of the business separated in October – through an MBO by former Olympic swimmers Steve Parry and Rebecca Adlington – leaving JD Gyms to focus on growing the gym estate.
The Chester site will be open 24/7 and includes extensive strength and cardio areas area, specialist lifting platforms and a dedicated lower-body workout space with equipment from Booty Builder. Eleiko has supplied a custom-built functional rig. There are saunas in the luxury changing rooms.
JD Gyms CEO, Alun Peacock, says: “Chester marks another exciting point in our expansion. We are not just opening another gym, we are bringing one of the best gym experiences in the country with unbeatable value and firmly believe JD Gyms will become the go-to destination for the Chester community.”
In a pre-sales drive, the first month membership is being offered for just £5, after which it will be £26.99 a month or £34.99 for the plus membership which gives discounts to JD Sports Online and access to all the other clubs.
After Chester, the next site to open will be Enfield on 11 November, this will be followed by Aberdeen, Basildon, Gloucester, Reading and Wakefield, by which time the company will have surpassed its 100 milestone.
