Final approval for £27m Leeds scheme
Leeds City Council (LCC) has confirmed that construction work is to begin on a new £27m wellbeing centre at Holt Park next month after the project was received the final green light.
The local authority is overseeing the development and has been informed by the Department of Health that the proposals have been formally approved by the Treasury.
Funded through the Private Finance Initiative, the work will be undertaken through the Local Education Partnership and its contractor, Interserve Project Services.
The new Holt Park Wellbeing Centre has been designed by Mentor - a partnership between GHM Rock Townsend and FaulknerBrowns - and will include a 25m swimming pool.
Facilities will also include a hydrotherapy pool; a teaching pool; a multi-activity room; and a Bodyline gym, as well as hubs for both older people and those with learning difficulties.
LCC executive member for adult health and social care Lucinda Yeadon said: "The new centre will provide a much-needed resource for the whole community of north-west Leeds to access a whole range of health facilities and services."
Adam Ogilvie, the council's executive member for leisure, added: "The new centre will be a real one-stop shop for people of all ages to make use of a wide variety of leisure, health and council services."
