Finnair opens spa at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport

By Tom Walker    15 Dec 2009

Finnish airline Finnair has opened a beauty spa within its new departure lounge at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport in Finland.

Called Via Spa, facilities include four treatment rooms and two paddling pools - one cold and one warm.

The spa will also offer four different saunas - a spruce sauna, a stone sauna and a steam sauna as well as a traditional Finnish sauna offering views over the aircraft taxiways.

The spa will offer naturopathic treatments and all of the spa's treatment's use products made from organic ingredients. The products at the spa will be supplied by Haslauer and its Kurland line of spa treatments.

The treatments have been specifically designed for transit passengers while the cold water paddling pool and a mineral water pool aim to alleviate travel fatigue and the effects of jetlag.

Markku Remes, Finnair's customer experience development manager said: "The Via Spa environment is unique in the world of airports and will communicate the fact that Finnair really cares for the wellbeing of its customers.

"The natural freshness of Finland's nature is combined in spa experience with the pure organic treatment ingredients."

The spa is part of the new Via Lounge, which will be open free of charge to Finnair Plus and Oneworld top-tier members and business class customers. The lounge is also available to all other travellers for a fee.

Access to the Via Spa will be free of charge to Finnair Plus Platinum cardholders, while all other customers are welcome to use the spa for a fee.

The Via Lounge can cater for around 250 travellers and facilities include six private shower rooms, a buffet, a Via Bar and various relaxation areas fitted with Samsung LED TVs.

The interior design is by the Finnish company Isku Interior.

The Via Lounge has been funded by a partnership between Finnair, Finavia and SSP Finland and is part of a strategy to improve the competitiveness of Helsinki-Vantaa as an international airport.

Finnair has looked to increase the number of transit passengers going through the airport by diverting its Asian traffic through Helsinki-Vantaa.
