First Aid course for sports volunteers
East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sports Development Team has organized a first aid training course for local sports clubs volunteers.
The course, run by Burton College, has been designed to prepare volunteers for the Sport England Club Mark scheme.
Under the new initiative – due to be implemented by Sport England – sports clubs have a responsibility to provide a child-friendly and safe environment with qualified first-aiders available.
Graham Rule, sports development officer for East Staffordshire Council, said: “We decided to get as many of our sports clubs volunteers qualified in emergency first aid, to ensure people can be confident that all clubs run by East Staffordshire Sports Development are providing a safe environment for children and adults.”
Topics covered in the course included paediatric first aid, resuscitation, bleeding, fractures, burns and scalds, how to get help and emergency bandaging and treatment.
