First meeting of FIFA football task force
Zambian international footballer Kalusha Bwalya has lead the inaugural meeting of the FIFA Task Force Football 2014, which has been established to discuss the future of the sport.
It is hoped that the group will come up with 'concrete solutions' for football's future, which would be presented to the 2012 FIFA Congress. Among the first measures proposed by FIFA Task Force Football 2014 is the potential of a fourth substitution to be allowed in extra time - particularly in youth competitions.
Serious foul play and denying a goalscoring chance could be met with triple punishment - a penalty; a red card; and a suspension under the proposals. Refereeing, competition regulations and women's football were also the subject of talks at the meeting, with chair Franz Beckenbauer to report back at the 61st Congress on 1 June.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter said: "I am convinced that with this line-up we will endeavour to maintain and even raise the attractiveness of the game, in particular to meet the changing demands of fans."
