Food attraction planned for Netherlands in 2021
A new attraction marketing itself as a “food experience” will open in 2021 in the Netherlands.
The World Food Centre is being created to bring businesses, researchers, farmers and food industry professionals together, while getting members of the public to grow, eat, celebrate and learn about where their food comes from.
The attraction will be located in Ede, in the Netherlands’ ‘Food Valley’ – a global food centre for companies and agri-food research institutions.
More than 350,000 people are expected to visit the attraction annually, which will show consumers how their food is produced, processed, transported, and consumed through a year-round educational exhibition.
The full site will be split into four parts – the exhibition; a space for labs where six universities will conduct research into healthy, sustainable food development; a 50,000sq m (538,196sq ft) business incubator; and a facility with dining, hotels and residential.
“As the second most productive food region in the world, it’s our mission in the Netherlands to feed the planet today and tomorrow,” said World Food Centre area development manager Harry Veldhuis.
“The World Food Centre provides the right opportunity to tell the powerful story of that mission.”
