Accrington Stanley puts forward ground development proposal
English League Two club Accrington Stanley has put forward an ambitious proposal to build a “multi-million pound” 1,500-capacity stand at its Wham Stadium.
The proposed stand will be built on the Whinney Hill side of the ground and will have “modern spectator facilities” for home and away support. The single-tier stand will be built with the possibility of adding corporate entertainment boxes at a later stage, although the ground’s capacity of 5,000 will remain the same.
Accrington owner Andy Holt said the development would be a “major boost for football fans coming to the Wham Stadium” and offer an improved match day experience.
“We have been working together with the council and the local community and looking at substantial investment that will improve the entire area,” he added. “We will create community facilities that should make the whole area something the people of Accrington can be proud of.”
Holt has agreed a new 50-year lease of the ground with Hyndburn Council, and council leader Miles Parkinson said the plans were “great news”.
He added: “These are exciting times for Accrington Stanley and the plans will herald a new era for the club.”
Frank Whittle Partnership has been selected to carry out the work if the proposal is approved.
