Former Bible Society headquarters to be reborn as luxury residential tower in New York
Sales for the Park Loggia – a 32-storey condominium situated on Manhattan's Upper West Side – are set to get underway this spring.
Overhauled by global architecture office Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM), who originally created the Brutalist building in 1966 for the American Bible Society, the residences will be clad in champagne-hued terracotta and feature 172 apartments and penthouses with prices starting at US$1.6m (€1.4m, £1.2m).
Located at 15 West 61st Street – a minute's walk from Central Park – the luxe complex will also boast a gym, theatre, golf simulator, music studio, children's playroom, and outdoor terraces with barbeque amenities.
Outfitting for the Park Loggia's interiors, including the walnut-panelled lobby, is being carried out by design studio Pembroke and Ives.
The property, which was acquired for US$300m by AvalonBay Communities in 2015, will also feature a private porte-cochère and offer round-the-clock concierge services.
Speaking to the New York Times Martin Piazzolo, senior president of development at the company said: "It was such an amazing site it screamed out to be a condo development."
