Gala casinos face calls for industrial action
Workers at Gala Casinos in London are calling for industrial action over safe travel, hot meals and a pay rise of £20 per person per week, according to the trade union GMB.
The casinos which could be affected are the Gala Barracuda, Gala Piccadilly, Gala Russell Square, Gala Colden Horseshoe and Gala Tottenham Court Road.
GMB spokesperson Michael Ainsley said: “All the other major casino operators such as Stanley’s, Grosvenor and London Clubs International appreciate the need for their staff to receive hot food and have provided it for many years.”
The union, which has more than 600,000 members in the UK, is also asking Gala to provide safe transport home for staff who finish their shifts in the dark and a £20 per week pay rise.
Ainsley said: “We know there is no shortage of money to pay our members from the massive profit pot that they help to build.”
Gala Coral was recently named the biggest private company in Britain by The Sunday Times, with annual sales of £7.4bn and an operating profit of £242m. Details: www.gmb.org.uk
