Geelong stadium seeks new naming partner
Geelong Football Club (GFC) has announced that it is seeking a new naming right sponsor for the Skilled Stadium in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, from 2012.
The Skilled Group, which currently gives its name to the Australian Rules stadium, has now decided to relinquish its rights from 31 October, but will remain a sponsor of the club. It comes ahead of a planned redevelopment of the venue, which was handed a boost in April after the state government approved AU$25m (£15.8m, EUR18m, US$25.6m) of funding.
The funding will enable GFC to undertake a redevelopment of the Doug Wade Stand, which will include a community wellness and education centre and increase capacity to 34,500. GFC chief executive Brian Cook said: "Skilled Stadium is considered one of the premier regional stadiums in Australia and, with the upcoming stage three development, it offers an exciting time for a potential naming rights sponsor to come on board."
