Sports Coach UK – formerly the National Coaching Foundation – is currently designing the government’s National Coaching Certificate.

Governing bodies of 31 sports, from archery to volleyball, have endorsed the scheme, which will give coaches a nationally-recognised and transferable professional qualification for the first time.

UK Sport and the Home Country Sport Councils are working with Sports Coach UK.

Richard Caborn MP, minister for sport, said: “This certificate will recognise coaching as it should – a profession with a proper accredited qualification and career development structure – and help to tackle the shortage of coaches, both professional and voluntary.”
