Work has now started on the installation of the set for the opening scene of the London 2012 Opening Ceremony, which will show an "idyllic" view of the UK countryside in the Olympic Stadium.

The Ceremonies Team – led by artistic director Danny Boyle – will transform the entire field of play with a set including meadows, fields and rivers. All four Home Nations will be represented with their national flower.

Boyle said: "The Opening Ceremony is an attempt to capture a picture of ourselves as a nation, where we have come from and where we want to be.

"I've been astounded by the selfless dedication of the volunteers, they are the purest embodiment of the Olympic spirit and represent the best of who we are as a nation."
