Tax reprieve for Accrington Stanley
Accrington Stanley Football Club (ASFC) has been handed a 12-month reprieve after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) accepted proposals for the payment of a £300,000 unpaid tax bill.
A winding-up order was due to be heard at the High Court on 10 June, but has now been adjourned after the Lancashire club satisfied HMRC that it would be able to clear its debt within the next year. Robert Heys, ASFC chief executive, said: "We knew HMRC were only ever going to adjourn the hearing rather than remove the petition tomorrow, in order to give some time that will show that we can meet the initial payments going forward."
The Coca-Cola League Two outfit previously said that continuing contractual obligations with regards to players wages had contributed to its increased level of debt, as well as the collapse of main sponsor Fraser Eagle and the £60,000 needed to pay for ground improvements to satisfy Football League regulations during the 2008-09 season.
