Heart of Midlothian Football Club has unveiled plans to create a museum celebrating the club’s 140-year history.

The second-tier Edinburgh club – which nearly folded after entering administration last year – has traditionally been known as one of Scotland’s best sides.

Among the items to be housed in the museum are thought to be the club’s four Scottish Premier League championship awards and eight Scottish Cup trophies, among other silverware for the decorated side. A selection of memorabilia and kits dating back to the club’s founding in 1874 are also to be included in the museum.

Steven Kilgour, general secretary of the Federation of Hearts Supporters Clubs, said in a statement: “They are putting the pride back into the club, on and off the pitch. The museum has been mooted for a few years and it’s good to see things are finally happening.”

A feasibility study has been launched by the club, looking into creating the visitor attraction within Tynecastle Stadium’s Gorgie Stand and club historians and archivists are working closely with the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
