Heath Robinson Museum takes crowdfunding route
The William Heath Robinson Trust has turned to crowdfunders, Kickstarter, in its efforts to raise money to open a museum commemorating the artist, illustrator and humorist.
The Trust has an extensive collection of artwork, letters and books, but no permanent home. The proposed museum, at West House in Pinner Memorial Park in North East London, UK would display these artefacts in the permanent exhibition space, telling the story of his life and work. There would also be a temporary exhibition area and a learning and activity studio.
With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Trust has employed architects to design a building befitting the collection at West House. The building has a copper roof, English chestnut windows, locally sourced white brick and exposed timbers inside.
If all goes according to plan, The Heath Robinson Museum would open in 2015. The organisation has applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund, but needs to raise an additional £430,000 to make the project a reality.
