A £15m sports village has opened on the new Dehavilland campus of the University of Hertfordshire.

The village is part of a major construction programme at the Hatfield site and includes a broad range of sports facilities which will be made accessible to the local community as well as university students.

Facilities at the site include; a 25m deck level pool, built to national short course standard; a 12m climbing wall; a sports hall, built to the national governing body standards in badminton, basketball, netball and volleyball; a purpose-built cricket hall; and two squash courts.

The facility also includes a fitness suite with Technogym resistance, cv and weights equipment, and a studio.

Outside, six full-size pitches have been laid, including two 3rd generation grass surfaces, for football and rugby training, and one sand-dressed hockey pitch as well as three natural turf pitches. The development includes separate indoor and outdoor changing areas.
