Impulse Leisure is set to relaunch Blackshots Gym in Thurrock as an Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) accredited facility in September.

The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI), funded by Sport England, has allocated an ‘in principle’ grant of around £30,000 for the scheme, which will be given to Impulse Leisure once the improvements have been made to the gym.

Blackshots Gym will be one of 150 gyms around the country accredited to the IFI scheme, which is led by the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and aims to tackle the problems faced by users with disabilities when they are attempting to use mainstream facilities.

Impulse Leisure is working in partnership with Thurrock Council’s Disabled Sports Team and with The Healthy Living Centre, which are both also providing funding.

The total cost for the project will be around £32,000, which will be spent on training staff and new Life Fitness equipment for the gym.
