Peter Keller to lead International Council of Museums as new director general
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has named Peter Keller as its new director general, with the body’s former treasurer taking up the role with immediate effect.
Keller, who has been director of the Salzburg Cathedral Museum (Dommuseum) in Austria since 2002, has more than quintupled visitor numbers after initiating a merger with three other museums to form the DomQuartier Salzburg in 2014.
In his new role, Keller will focus on enhancing the organisation of ICOM’s head office, and on improving communication both internally with the National and International Committees and externally with ICOM’s various partners.
He will also work to strengthen ICOM’s network, intensify its publication, programme and capacity-building efforts, and reinforce the organisation’s presence to ensure members benefit from their affiliation.
Keller succeeds Anne-Catherine Robert-Hauglustaine, who during her term led the launch of the organisation’s rebranding, including the introduction of a new logo and the organisation of a successful triennial General Conference in Milan in 2016.
