The £12m Darwen leisure centre will open to the public in January 2010, a month later than originally planned.

The centre will feature a 25m swimming pool with a moveable floor, spectator seating, a health and fitness suite, a multi-use sports hall, café and changing facilities.

The centre is being built on the site of the old Darwen Leisure Centre, which was demolished last year to make space for the new development.

Plans for the centre were approved last year by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Sport England is contributing £400,000 to the project to fund the moveable floor, while the council will fund the rest.
