Nottingham brings in the New Year with £13m sport and leisure venue
Nottingham’s West Bridgford district has kicked off 2017 by welcoming a £13m (US$15.9m, €15.3m) sport and leisure centre to the area.
The Rushcliffe Arena, which was designed by GT Architects, has opened its doors, offering the community access to a 25-metre swimming pool, a learner pool with family beach and a fitness suite.
Other facilities included are a six-rink indoor bowls hall, aerobics and group cycling studios, and a room which accommodates a number of different events.
Parkwood Leisure is operating the site on behalf of Rushcliffe Borough Council.
Equipment for the gym has been supplied by Precor, Wattbike and Octane.
Neil Clarke, leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, said it was a “momentous time” for the area.
“Not only have we enhances sports provision in the borough, but we’re also reducing our ongoing running costs, making more efficient use of taxpayers’ money.”
He added: “Our new, purpose-built facility works for a modern council and also meets the needs of our community.”
