Scottish rugby has announced the appointment of Keith Grainger to fill two positions: commercial and marketing director and director of professional rugby.

Grainger was formerly chief executive of both Newport RFC and Northampton Saints and was also the commercial driving force at Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers.

His role in the new position will be to improve communications and enhance the reputation of Scottish Rugby with the media, businesses and supporters as well as driving up its revenues and heightening participation and interest in the sport in Scotland.

“In the light of Keith’s considerable experience in professional rugby and the outstanding commercial growth which he has overseen at four of the UK’s top professional clubs, he will be able to fulfil both remits,” said Phil Anderton, whom Grainger will be succeeding.

“Our strategic review has identified communication as an area where Scottish Rugby needs to place much greater emphasis.”
