Kent horse sculpture plans submitted
Plans to create a new 50m (164ft)-high sculpture of a white horse in Kent as part of the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project (ELP) have been submitted to Gravesham Borough Council (GBC).
Former Turner Prize winning artist Mark Wallinger was selected in January 2009 to design a major public artwork to be built at Springhead Park, overlooking Ebbsfleet Valley and Ebbsfleet International Station. ELP was launched in January 2008 as the result of a partnership between Eurostar, Land Securities and London and Continental Railways, operator of the High Speed One rail link.
Stephen Jordan, chair of the ELP board, said: "This is an important step on the journey for this ambitious project. We are all pleased to have made so much progress over the past few months." GBC leader Mike Snelling added: "While I cannot pre-judge the results of a planning application to our independent regulatory board, this is an exciting project which has the potential to put Ebbsfleet on the map."
