Kenya paves way for new sports authority
A new Sports Development Authority (SDA) is to be set up in Kenya after the country's cabinet approved the Sports Bill 2010.
It is proposed that the new agency will be responsible for regulating sports organisations across the country and help to support the sector's development. Among the measures to be introduced by the SDA is the creation of a Sports Trust fund and the foundation of the Kenya Sports Institute.
The new authority will also incorporate the Sports Stadia Management Board and is set to be operated independently by a board of directors. Meanwhile, the cabinet has also resolved to relocate the proposed Nairobi Fresh Produce Wholesale Market from land earmarked at Kasarani.
The development has been moved from its proposed site due to the planned expansion of facilities at Kasarani Sports Complex.
