LA Fitness announces swimming initiative
LA Fitness and Community Swimming Limited (CSL) have announced the launch of a new partnership designed to encourage one million more Britons to participate in swimming.
Unveiled by former Olympic swimmer Mark Foster and LA Fitness creative director Alesha Dixon, the initiative will see pools at 78 LA Fitness locations opened up to community use. CSL will operate a range of programmes at LA Fitness sites as part of the deal, which forms part of both organisations' commitment to the Public Health Responsibility Deal.
Programmes to be provided will follow the British Gas ASA Learn to Swim Framework and will include adults and children's swimming lessons, as well as aqua-based activities. LA Fitness chief executive officer Martin Long said: "As one of the largest pool providers in the UK we wanted to utilise our pools in a more effective way and broaden the appeal of swimming and other pool activities to the communities we work with.
"CSL bring their specialist knowledge to programme the pools in a way that will encourage more people to use them and enjoy a fantastic pool experience as part of their fitness routine." Foster said: "The initiative is giving those people who would not otherwise be able to access a private facility, more opportunities to get in the pool and benefit their health from swimming."
