LCC to discuss new cultural funding system
By Pete Hayman 21 Jul 2011
Leeds City Council's (LCC) executive board will discuss proposals to change how the local authority funds arts, cultural and sporting organisation at its meeting on 27 July.
Plans to go before senior councillors will call for a change to the existing annual system that sees around £2.6m allocated to local groups in favour of a three-year approach. The new system is designed to align with similar alterations made by Arts Council England on a national basis and will prevent the need for organisations to apply on a yearly basis.
If approved, the new approach would come into effect from April 2012, with the first grants to run until March 2015. A new funding element - Leeds Inspired - will also be created.
