LLDC delays Olympic Stadium decision by two months

A decision over the future of London's Olympic Stadium has been delayed again after the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) extended the bid process by eight weeks.

It comes after issues arose following the issue of the Invitation to Tender (ITT) in January, which LLDC said may have deterred some interested parties from bidding to takeover the venue after the 2012 Games.

However, the LLDC stressed that its aspiration of having the construction contracts for the conversion of the stadium signed by October had not changed despite the extension.

A 99-year lease is being made available for the Olympic Stadium, which is currently scheduled to reopen after the Games in 2014. West Ham United Football Club are among the interested parties.

LLDC chief executive Andrew Altman said: "We have been very encouraged by the quality of the bids so far. However, a number of issues have arisen during the process and we believe it is sensible to give everyone more time so they can be addressed.

"We want to make the process as competitive as possible and extending the competition period will will allow all parties that registered an initial interest in the stadium another chance to bid."
