LTA awards best of British tennis
The Lawn Tennis Assocation (LTA) has acknowledged the best in British tennis with the announcement of the winners of the 2006 LTA awards.
The awards recognise the clubs and individuals which are helping develop the sport and are made in six categories.
Coach of the year was won by Martin Weston, a performance coach based in Nottingham who runs elite programmes for talented players of all ages.
Club of the year was Bristol City Tennis Club for its efforts in bringing tennis to an expanding player base across its seven venues.
Manchester City Council was named best local authority for its encouragement of participation in tennis through a variety of programmes, including the Cliff Richard Tennis Trail, a disability tennis programme and a community development scheme in East Manchester.
School of the year was Norton College, Malton, while Alan Mills and Nancy Riach, of Wimbledon and Huntingdon tennis club respectively, were named official and volunteer of the year.
