Language learners targeted by Welsh tourism initiative
A new marketing initiative has been launched in north west Wales to promote the area as a tourist destination to Welsh language learners.
Developed by the Welsh Language Initiative in Gwynedd and Conwy, the scheme has identified accommodation providers in the area who cater for Welsh learners and provide opportunities for them to practice their linguistic skills.
A booklet, listing places to stay, restaurants and tourist attractions in Gwynedd and Conwy where Welsh is spoken, has been produced and a new website, www.holidaysinwelsh.com has been launched.
“The combination of outstanding natural beauty and areas where over 70 per cent of the population speak Welsh makes north-west Wales ideal for such an initiative,” said Dafydd Roberts of the Llanberis Slate Museum, which took part in the launch of the campaign.
The next stage of the scheme will see guidelines prepared on how to respond to the linguistic needs of learners.
