Last chance to see Olympic Torch Concert live

09 Jun 2004

Today is the last day that members of the public can apply for free tickets to the Olympic Torch Concert to be held on the Mall in London on 26 June.

The event, held to mark the Olympic Torch’s journey through London – the first time the Olympic flame has visited the UK since 1948 – will be headlined by Rod Stewart along with acts including Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne, Jamelia, Emma Bunton, Will Young, McFly and the cast of musical, Tonight’s the night.

The 70,000 tickets on offer will be allocated by ballot and those hoping to go have until noon today (9 June) to apply.

The Olympic Flame will travel through 11 London boroughs on the day, carried by 140 people including Tim Henman, Jonathan Edwards, Colin Jackson and Heather Mills McCartney. For the final stretch, into the Mall, the torch will be carried by five times Olympic Gold medallist, Sir Steve Redgrave.

David Campbell, chief executive of tourism organisation, Visit London, said: “We are enormously proud to be associated with the Olympic flame’s visit to London and are delighted at the support we have been given by all the artists for what will be a spectacular concert and day of entertainment.

“Visit London wanted to stage an event that encompassed the ethos of the Olympic ideal, bringing it to the people in one of the world’s most famous capital cities: we are confident that the Olympic Torch Concert and all the events on 26 June will do just that.”

The concert has been jointly organised by Visit London and the Greater London Authority Details: www.visitlondon.com
