Legacy scheme delivers 'earlier than planned'
An international legacy programme being run by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is delivering "earlier than planned".
International Inspiration has already achieved its ambition to reach out to 12 million young people in 20 countries across the world by the start of next summer's Games. The programme has already engaged with 12 million children in 17 countries, particularly focussing on developing countries with UNICEF, UK Sport and the British Council.
LOCOG chair Sebastian Coe said: "We promised to engage and inspire the youth of the world through sport and to integrate long-term sustainable legacy from the outset. "We promised that the lives of 12 million young people would change through the power of sport - a year out from the Games I am delighted to announce that we have fulfilled that pledge."
