Leisure Centre to introduce simulator in gym
The recently opened Cox Green Leisure Centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire, will introduce intelligent gaming technology - the Dogfight virtual plane simulator - into its workout room.
The Dogfight, a full featured flight simulator interfaced with a recumbent exercise bike, will be supplied by Instyle Fitness and is available for members to use from September 2010.
The introduction of the gaming machine is designed to bridge the gap between exercise and entertainment.
Users will be able to propel the plane by pedalling and control the simulator via spring loaded handles.
There is a choice aircraft and landscapes and users will also be able to compete against other players in the gym for an adrenaline-pumped game of aerial combat.
Richard May, centre manager, said: "As a new centre we are keen to embrace new technology and the Dogfight is a perfect example of this.
"Gaming is hugely popular but why should it be a sedentary activity? Fitness should be entertaining, fun and sociable and the virtual flight simulator ticks all these boxes."
