The Libyan Olympic Committee has commissioned Brighton-based architects, LCE Archimed, to work on the £150m master plans for a project in Tripoli.

The 2000,000sq m scheme, a mixture of leisure, entertainment, sports, shops, offices, hotels and housing, is hoped to provide a model for regeneration in the city.

Leisure facilities in the complex are likely to include a roller/ice skating rink, bowling, cinemas, a theme park, restaurants, cafés, a Biome, single-sex health and fitness facilities, and indoor and outdoor sports amenities.

The phased development is expected to start on site in 2005 with phase one complete by 2007. Further phases will be contingent upon finding overseas investment.
