Lichfield District Council in Staffordshire is set to submit a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a grant to restore the city’s historic parks.

If successful, the £3.7m grant would be used to revamp the footways, signage and furniture at Beacon Park, Museum Gardens, the Garden of Remembrance and Minster Pool. New tree planting would be carried out at all the parks.

Additional proposals include new changing facilities and a café extension to the existing pavilion at Beacon Park and the construction of a bowls pavilion and a refreshment kiosk at Museum Gardens.

The council’s plans – on public display from 15–21 January – will be submitted in March. If successful, the council will move forward with its phase two submission in March 2008.
