Life Online opens at National Media Museum
Life Online, a new permanent gallery dedicated to the social, technological and cultural impact of the internet, has been unveiled at the National Media Museum (NMM) in Bradford.
The gallery, which is seen as the first of its kind anywhere in the world, was opened by Vint Cerf and incorporates contributions from a host of technology and internet specialists.
Among those to contribute to Life Online is Cerf himself, regarded as one of the "fathers of the internet"; Sir Richard Branson's company and gallery sponsor, Virgin Media; and Ray Tomlinson, who sent the world's first email.
NMM curator of new media Tom Woolley said: "Although other galleries tell the story of the internet, no other gallery in the world is dedicated to exploring how the internet's ever-evolving history links to the impact it has on our lives."
