London Welsh Rugby Football Club (LWRFC) has been placed into administration after chair Kelvin Bryon revealed that the club will only survive for one more month without additional investment.

Carl Jackson and Gareth Roberts of Tenon Recovery have been appointed to oversee the running of the National League One club, which is hoping to generate an extra £1.5m a season in order to safeguard its long-term survival. LWRFC, which has recently turned professional, will face expulsion from the second tier of English rugby union's league pyramid if new investment cannot be secured after Bryon admitted that he could no longer afford to continue to be the club's main backer.

Bryon said: "London Welsh is within striking distance of the elite level of English rugby but I am unable to continue being the principal investor. To continue and achieve our dream of reaching the Premiership, we need other investors to step forward." Jackson added: "We will work closely with the board to attract interested parties over the next month and urge anyone who is interested to get in contact with us immediately."

In November last year, fellow National League One club Nottingham Rugby Football Club survived the threat of closure after a land deal worth £300,000 and a planned share issue fell through.
