Lord Coe, chair of the London 2012 organising committee (LOCOG), has announced his plans to become the next chair of the British Olympic Association (BOA).
Current chair Lord Colin Moynihan announced his intention to step down from the post following the conclusion of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The new chair is set to be elected later this year.
Coe's announcement to stand for the role - made after the parade of Olympic and Paralympic athletes in central London yesterday - could end speculations over what Coe's future role will be in sport governance.
It was thought that Coe was vying to become the next president of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) whose current president, Lamine Diack, is due to step down in 2015.
Coe is already a non-executive board member of England's 2018 World Cup bid company
