Lottery funding call for 2014 Games
Scottish sports minister Shona Robison believes that dedicated lottery games should be introduced in a bid to help establish a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Robison has also called upon the DCMS to help facilitate the return of £150m lottery funding, which it is claimed has been diverted away from Scottish good causes in order to help pay for the 2012 London Olympics. She said: "Long after the last medal has been presented, we have our eyes on a bigger prize which will encourage and inspire everyone to live healthier, more active lives.
"This is why the return of £150m lost lottery funding to Scotland is so important. This issue cuts across the political divide and has unanimous support from the Scottish Parliament. Dedicated lottery games have already secured serious sums of funding for the London Olympics. I want to ensure Scotland gets its fair share." It comes as the findings from a public consultation into the anticipated impact of the 2014 Games are due to be published later this month, which have already informed a health impact assessment carried out by Glasgow City Council (GCC).
GCC will host five events across the city to present the early findings from the consultation, as well as recommendations on the likely positive and negative effects of hosting the event.
