Government plans to reform and axe a number of quangos have been "poorly managed", according to a new Public Administration Committee (PAC) report.

The committee raised concerns that the reforms would not deliver the public expenditure savings and improved accountability that had been targeted by the government. PAC chair Bernard Jenkin said: "The whole process was rushed and poorly handled and should have been thought through a lot more.

"This was a fantastic opportunity to help build the Big Society and save money at the same time, but it has been botched."
