Macdonald Hotels has acquired the Aviemore Highland Resort from its administrators, PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

The £130m Scottish resort was previously owned by a consortium comprising Macdonald, Lloyds Banking Group and Tulloch, the construction company, and had been operated by Macdonald for nearly 20 years.

However, the hotel went into administration earlier this year due to problems surrounding an £80m refurbishment, which will now go ahead as planned.

The revamp includes plans to refurbish each of the resort’s hotels and to provide additional facilities including a children’s fun factory, a cinema and a clubhouse facility at the Spey Valley Championship Golf Course at Dalfaber.

Our task, along with the ongoing support of the Cairngorm National Park Authority, is to establish the resort as a world class leisure and conference destination that we can all be proud of.”
