Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) has just announced it has not received a bid from US-based tycoon Malcolm Glazer.

In a statement issued to the London Stock Exchange this lunchtime the club’s board admitted it had undergone preliminary discussions with the Glazer Family company, but that a definitive proposal had not been made.

However, the board did not rule out the possibility of a future bid, adding that the board “understands that Glazer =amily continues to consider all its options in relation to its shareholding in the club, including the possibility of making an offer.”

Media speculation on the future of MUFC has been ripe since the board announced on 4 October that it was in negotiations regarding a possible takeover bid.

Glazer was subsequently revealed as being the bidder, which resulted in a revolt by concerned fans who feared that the tycoon – who already owns the American football team Tampa Bay Buccaneers – would raise ticket prices as a means of financing the takeover.

MUFC also announced that talks between Glazer and the largest shareholders, John Magnier and J.P. MacManus, had been terminated.
