StreetGames teams up with LTA to create 100 pop-up tennis clubs
Sports charity StreetGames and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have announced a partnership to create 100 pop-up tennis clubs across the UK.
The clubs will be set up in disadvantaged communities and will target young people hoping to get involved with sport but haven’t got the means to do so.
According to figures from the Inactivity Time Bomb report, the UK’s lowest-income households are most likely to have least active children, with the poorest households spending less than £2 a week on sport.
StreetGames has set a target of making the tennis clubs available for more than 4,000 youngsters.
Babolat, a manufacturer of tennis equipment, will supply the rackets, balls and mini tennis nets for the programme.
Background:
• StreetGames is a national sports charity launched in 2007. A national partner of Sport England and a national centre of expertise for developing sport in disadvantaged communities, the charity helps to make sport accessible to all young people, regardless of their income or social circumstances.
