Image: More projects have secured legacy funding

London mayor Boris Johnson has pledged a further £800,000 for grassroots sports projects across the capital as part of the wider £15.5m 2012 Sports Legacy Fund.

A total of 16 schemes are to benefit in the latest round of funding, with grants worth between £6,000 and £160,000 to be help improve facilities, upgrade equipment and enhance access.

Among the recipients is Twickenham Brunswick Club for Young People, which is building a new boxing centre in Richmond with the help of a £160,000 award.

Elsewhere, Masbro Centre in Hammersmith and Fulham has received £75,000 towards plans for the replacement of the sports hall roof and a revamp of the pitch and changing areas.

Johnson said: "I am determined that Londoners are inspired by the feats of endurance we are set to witness, to get fit and active."
